Ideally situated in the town of Oakville, River Oaks is a desireable neighbourhood that is nestled between Upper Middle and Dundas and runs west of Trafalgar to Sixteen Mile Creek, just west of Neyagawa Blvd.
River Oaks as we know it today came into being from the mid 1980's, and with its close proximity to Oakville GO station, access to the QEW/403/Gardiner Expressway as well as the 407, 401 and Pearson International, it is a firm favourite with families that make Oakville their home but need accesibility for commuting to and from work.
With wide streets and well maintained homes in a family friendly community, homes here are built onto numerous trails making it ideal for those wanting to get out and about for a walk, or taking the family pet for a walk. In addition, there are numerous parks and parkettes for the kids to play in a safe enviroment. Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, is a 196,000 sq ft facility at Dundas and Neyagawa Blvd. The state of the art facility is home to 3 NHL sized ice pads with a seating capacity of 250 each, an Olympic sized 1500 seat ice surface, a 150 seat restaurant, concession stands, 2 shooter pads, a pro shop and several multi purpose rooms, and opened its doors September 18th 2010.
It will also be home of 2 lit soccer fields, interestingly one with natural turf,the other with artificial, a splash pad, BMX and skate board facilities, and an off leash dog park those should be operational in the spring of 2011 .
The second phase of the complex will see additional soccer fields, swimming pools, fitness centre, community centre, library and a cultural centre, the time frame for this is to be announced but should be sometime in 2018.
Within River Oaks, you will find the trendy Tribute community of Oak Park, situated between Trafalgar & Sixth Line, Gelenashton to Dundas, which since being developed has become a firm favourite of young professional and their growing families. It offers a Dickensian atmosphere with it crescented streets of detached, semis, townhomes, condominiums & retiremnt homes .
It is perfectly located to the North Oakville commercial area where most of your shopping needs are met on your doorstep with larger chains such as Loblaws, Walmart, Longo's, LCBO,Winners, Homesense, canadian Tire, and numerous independant stores to meet you every need. In addition there are many eateries in the area fomr Asian, Italian, family favourites such as Turtle Jacks, Kelseys, and The Keg, and a handfull of bars and pubs such as Greyfriars that offers a good menu, good atmosphere, and feature nights that include music trivia on Tuesdays, Poker nights on Wednesdays and live music from featured performers on Thursdays.
Oak Park is also home to the new 70,000 sq ft, state of the art Police headquaters, south of Dundas, between Sixth Line and Oak Park Blvd.
